Interstitial House was created as a schematic design for a client who wanted to purchase the plot of land next to Neutra's VDL House.  Looking at Neutra's house we found an integral desire for indoor/outdoor living due to Southern California's typically warm and dry climate.  Using this idea as a driving force, Interstitial House creates levels of outdoor spaces and connections to the exterior while maintaining privacy for the client from their nearby neighbors, as well as creating a relatively blank facade at fronting Silver Lake Blvd.  The varying levels throughout the house allow rooms to be created within the open floor plan without needing many walls to get in the way.
