When Taryn and her husband made the cross-country move from Los Angeles to Boston during the winter, designing a new space for their family in this converted 1874 church was the only thing keeping her going.

The building is a former German Trinity Catholic Church that ceased operations in 2008. The Lucas is 33 new boutique, luxury condos, and 5 stories of glass and steel were added on top of the existing church. Luckily, Taryn lives in the church proper, hence the original cathedral window shapes in the living room and bedroom.

Much of the style was influenced by her desire to bring more of her minimal California style to her new East Coast digs. With new, South-facing windows, she was delighted to source many local houseplants and try her best to keep them alive.

Geometric shapes and bright pops of muted colors are her forte and show themselves throughout each space. A major aspect of the new design was for the bedroom to have an overwhelming sense of calm. Taryn designed it to feel as calm and cozy as a boutique hotel.
