AFRICAN MODERNISM IN AMERICA

Kemper Museum of Art, St. Louis, Missouri

Collaborating on this amazing first traveling exhibition of works from the Fisk archives was a joy. We worked closely with Perrin Lathrop, co-curator of the show along with Jamaal Sheets. The biggest challenge was how to show so many pieces in only one gallery. The scheme we developed took the 4 parts of the story that the curators developed and made each into its own gallery. The galleries then open up as the work tends to get larger - while diagonal walls also begin to cut in and break up the otherwise rectilinear spaces. Colors were carried through in the portal openings to each gallery as well as the casework pieces.
